Hello everyone,
This is my last tip for all of the incoming freshman!
HAVE FUN!!!!!
Your freshman year will be filled with great memories, awesome weekends, many mistakes, good and bad classes, multiple laughs, some cries, and much much more! Enjoy every second of it!
I have less than a week left until my Freshman year is over and it went by so fast!
I have made some great friends and I am going to miss them so much over the summer!
I hope that my tips will be helpful and that your Freshman experience was just as good as mine!
Have a great time!
Goodnight :)
Tips on How to Survive Freshman Year at Elmira College

Be Careful
We do have a very safe campus but we live in a small city that tends to have a high crime rate. The blocks surrounding campus have some pretty scary people in them so be careful when you go off campus. Walking off campus in the day is okay if you have a buddy but I would never recommend walking off campus at night!
Be smart and do not try to start problems with the towns people.

Our campus food really is not that bad even though people complain about it a lot! Our food is a lot better than some other colleges. However, do not only eat in the dinning hall because you will get sick of it very quickly! Switch it up, go to 1855 (our cafe) for dinner and the dinning hall for lunch!
We have a few different dinning options in the campus center: the main dining hall, the 1855 room, Mackenzie's, Simione's, and a general store called Sweeny's. The college also added another cafe on the other side of campus in Harris which is an academic building.
I would definitely recommend our schools wraps, breakfast sandwiches, and ranch melts! They are just a few of my favorites!

Make Your room as "homey" as possible! You room really is your home away from home! You take care of it because it is a reflection of you. I clean my dorm room so much more than I clean my room at home because it is only mine to take care of (and my roommate of course). You will want to bring posters, pictures, and more to decorate your room!
There are three freshman dorms on campus: Alumni, Columbia, and Anderson. Alumni is one floor boys and three floors girls, Columbia is all girls, and Anderson, is two floors boys and one floor girls. Alumni is usually for non-athletes, columbia is a mix, and anderson is known as the freshman party dorm.
No matter your dorm, get to know the people who live around you! It is much more enjoyable if you get along with your floor mates believe me!

Random Thought
I just thought of a tip so I thought I would share before I forgot it!
Tip: Procrastination is an enemy in college! In high school, the work load is completely different and procrastinating is easy to do. However, there is so much more work in college. Try to plan out when things are due so you do not forget about them! Not all professors will remind you when things are due! Keep track of everything, you have a lot more responsibility in college!

Tips 5/23/13
Hello again,
I just thought of some new tips that you should know for the upcoming year!
Tip 1: Make sure you do laundry regularly. Laundry will pile up and there are limited washers in every dorm so finding open washers can be a problem. Try to do laundry at least once a week. I live in Columbia Hall and there are only five washers for 120 girls, so doing laundry can sometimes be difficult.
Tip 2: Make sure you bring a Fan to college! None of the freshman dorms have air conditioning so the dorms get incredibly hot at the beginning and end of the year. Elmira can be very hot and humid sometimes, and it is almost impossible to sleep with out a Fan!
Tip 3: Get used to the bells! Elmira is known for their loud bell tower next to the gymnasium. The bells go off every fifteen minutes from 8am to 10pm. At 6:55pm the bells play our alma mater because our college was founded in 1855 and in military time its 18:55. Our bells also play a song at noon! The first few weeks the bells can become very annoying but you get used to it and pretty soon you will barely hear them at all!
I will post again soon!

Hello Again,
I have some new tips for the incoming freshman on how to survive freshman year at EC!
First off if you come to college with a boyfriend or a girlfriend you might want to be prepared for a lot of drama! We call it broketober because multiple couples seem to be broken up by then! However, a few do survive but it is very difficult! Also, if you do come in to college with a significant other do not let them stop you from meeting new people!
The next tip is to keep checking the amount of money on your meal card! Girls will generally have a lot of money left over at the end of the term while boys will be scrounging to find people to buy them food.
When you are going to a dorm that you do not live in make sure you give your escort a lot of time to get there before you do so that you are not awkwardly waiting by the door to be let in!
Last but not least, try to stay the full year at Elmira even if you do not like it at first! Term III is definitely worth the wait! You will have so much fun laying on the grass, playing intramural softball, playing can jam, and having wednesdays off. It is a party almost everyday and is a lot of fun!
Ill try to post again soon!
